The fast pace of development of technologies in the construction sector entails continuous performing of needs analyses for retraining of the workforce in the construction sector.
This study considers the current technological trends in the construction sector, specifically those related to the digital transformation and green transition, and the impact that they have on the processes of upskilling and reskilling of the selected occupations.
More specifically this needs analysis is revolving around the key skills that are deployed in the application of the latest construction technologies: Digital skills, Energy efficiency skills, Skills for sustainable construction based on circular economy and Transferable skills.
The construction is an industry that is vital for the economy of North Macedonia, given that, in addition to the direct impact on economic development, it entails the engagement of about twenty-five other industries. Therefore, the uninterrupted supply of well-trained workforce equipped with the critical skills for the application of the construction technologies is of utmost importance. The study provides rationale about the shift towards green transition and digital transformation of the construction sector, is based on reliable and official statistical data and takes into account the objectives set in the key strategic documents at national and Western Balkan level.
The need analysis displays the logical link between the four set of skills and the relevant construction technologies where these are applicable and indispensable. The findings from the needs analysis are utilized in for the preparation and design of the three syllabi that will be a baseline for development of three courses for training of professionals for technologies in the construction industry:
- Course 1: Fundamentals of NZEB design, construction and operation
- Course 2: Introduction to Sustainability in the Construction Sector
- Course 3: Management Principles Applied in the Construction Sector
